Talk by Professor Antonella Sorace on how growing up with more than one language is a gift for life.
Professor Antonella Sorace is coming to the Pregnancy & Parents Centre on Tuesday 27 October for a talk on bilingualism. It runs from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, an hour and a half in the heart of the Southside.
The whole evening is built around one question: what happens when a child grows up with more than one language? Sorace frames it as a gift for life, and the talk is an invitation to see why. If you've got kids at home, or you're thinking about how to introduce a second language, it's exactly the kind of thing that hits close to home. It's not just about the practical side of it, either — the way she describes it suggests a look at the broader, lifelong effect of being bilingual, rather than just a set of tips for the early years.
The venue is the Pregnancy & Parents Centre at 188 Pleasance, EH8 9RT, a spot that's usually all about supporting families, so it fits the subject. The talk itself is led by Sorace, who'll be taking you through how growing up with multiple languages works and why it's such a positive thing to carry forward. It's a single session, so you'll get the full run of it in one go.
