West Midlands post-punk duo Big Special headline The Liquid Room with support from The Joy Hotel and Bradley Taylor.
Big Special headline The Liquid Room on Sunday 29 November, with support from The Joy Hotel and Bradley Taylor. It's a Sunday night slot in the Old Town, so you'll have the whole evening to get sorted before the working week kicks back in.
If you're not familiar with them, Big Special are a duo from the Black Country in the West Midlands. The two behind it are Joe Hicklin on vocals and Callum Moloney on drums, childhood friends who first met in college and later reunited when Hicklin started putting tracks together during the lockdown. Their sound pulls together heavy post-punk instrumentation, sharp spoken-word poetry and big melodic hooks, with lyrics that lean on the grit, humour and everyday struggles of working-class life in Britain alongside honest reflections on mental health. It's a combination that's earned them plenty of radio play, and they released their second album in 2025.
They're the main draw here, but there's more to the bill than just the headliners. The Joy Hotel and Bradley Taylor both open the night, so you'll get three acts in one go rather than just one. Between the support and the main set, it's a full evening of music.
