Stand-up comedy show by Andy Zaltzman reviewing the global year, following his sell-out The Zaltgeist tour.
Andy Zaltzman is playing The Royal Lyceum Theatre on Saturday 16 January 2027, with his new show The Certifiable History. It's a stand-up comedy hour that does exactly what the title suggests: it takes the global year and runs it through the Zaltzman filter. If you've followed his work, you know that usually means taking the news we've all been hearing and finding the absurd, skewed angle that makes the whole thing feel a bit more ridiculous than it did when it first hit the headlines.
It's a return to the stage for Zaltzman, who comes off the back of his sell-out tour The Zaltgeist. This one is billed as his review of another furiously odd year, and it's not a one-off Edinburgh stop. The show kicks off with a fifteen-night run at London's Soho Theatre, running from 14 December 2026 to 9 January 2027, before it makes its way up here to the Lyceum. So by the time it reaches Grindlay Street, it'll have had a few weeks to bed in.
If you're not fully across what he does, Zaltzman is one of those names that crops up across a few different corners of the comedy and broadcasting world. He's a host on The News Quiz and The Bugle podcast, the statistician on Test Match Special, and he took the title of champion in series 18 of Taskmaster. The common thread is that particular way he has of picking apart a story until the logic falls apart, which is pretty much what this show is built on.
