Marlowe Theatre production of A Tale of Two Cities, directed by Michael Fentiman, at the King's Theatre.
A Tale of Two Cities comes to the King's Theatre from 16 to 20 February 2027, a Marlowe Theatre production directed by Michael Fentiman. It's a new staging of the adaptation by Terence Rattigan and John Gielgud, based on Charles Dickens' novel. If you've read the book, you'll know the story: it's set in 1770s Paris as the Reign of Terror rages, an epic of love, sacrifice and redemption. The adaptation is the one Rattigan and Gielgud put together, and it's the version this production is bringing to the stage.
There's a fair bit of theatre history behind the names here. Terence Rattigan is the playwright behind The Winslow Boy and The Deep Blue Sea, and he worked with John Gielgud on this particular adaptation. Michael Fentiman is the director, and his recent credits include AmΓ©lie, the RSC's Titus Andronicus, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Loot. It's a Marlowe Theatre production, so it's coming to Edinburgh as part of a tour.
