Interactive Halloween drag queen storytime with Miss Shirley, picture books, a themed craft and trick-or-treating inside the building.
Miss Shirley is hosting a Halloween Drag Queen Storytime at the Arvada Center on Saturday, October 31, at 10 AM. It's a partnership with the Jefferson County Public Library, and you'll need to RSVP to get in.
If you haven't crossed paths with her before, Miss Shirley is a Denver-area drag staple who first stepped onto the scene at the Miss Queen of Aces Pageant in 2011. She's been reading to children since 2017, using drag to celebrate the diversity of the world. Her storytime is built around creativity, curiosity, and a love of reading, and she pulls from picture books like Perfectly Norman by Tom Percival and Be Who You Are by Todd Parr.
It's an interactive session, not just a reading. There are questions, personal stories, and an "Ask the Drag Queen" segment where kids can get their curiosities answered. Afterward, you can take photos with her. This Halloween edition adds a themed craft for the kids and trick-or-treating inside the building during the final 15 minutes.
