Blues rock concert by Tommy Castro & The Painkillers with special guest GA-20 at The Kessler Theater.
Tommy Castro & The Painkillers play The Kessler Theater on Tuesday, November 10, with special guest GA-20 opening the night. It's a blues rock bill, and the headliner is a California-based guitarist and singer who's been at this for a long time.
Castro leads The Painkillers with bassist Randy McDonald, keyboardist Dave Fleschner, and drummer Stewart Burr. He grew up in San Jose, picked up a guitar at 10, and spent his early years jamming at JJ's Blues Bar. In 1985 he was the lead singer and guitarist for the blues band NiteCry, and later his group served as the house band for three seasons on NBC's Comedy Showcase after Saturday Night Live.
He joined Alligator Records in 2009 with the debut Hard Believer and has released seven more albums since, including the straight-ahead blues record Closer To The Bone. He's won 10 Blues Music Awards, including the 2023 B.B. King Entertainer of the Year, and plays around 150 nights a year.
