Kishi Bashi performs his Sonderlust 10th Anniversary Tour live at the Granada Theater.
Kishi Bashi plays the Granada Theater on Friday, October 16, as part of the Sonderlust 10th Anniversary Tour. The show is built around Sonderlust, the 2016 album that marked a shift in his sound. Before that, he was known for ornate violin loops; on Sonderlust, he moved toward vintage synths, warmer textures, and a more vulnerable way of singing. The title comes from "sonder," the realization that everyone around us is the center of their own complicated, beautiful universe—a feeling he still draws on.
Kishi Bashi is the pseudonym of violin virtuoso Kaoru Ishibashi. His 2012 debut 151a, released on Joyful Noise, earned him NPR's Best New Artist of the Year, and he followed it with Lighght, Sonderlust, Omoiyari, and Kantos. The anniversary edition of Sonderlust is also out via Joyful Noise Recordings, and it adds two previously unreleased B-sides, "Comin' To You" and "Harpsi Chords," along with demos of all ten album tracks and a new demo version of "m'Lover." He also revisited the original cover art with Ssin Kim for the reissue.
