Synth-pop group Book of Love performs live at the Granada Theater with special guest Lord Byron.
Book of Love play the Granada Theater on Friday, October 23, with Lord Byron opening. If you've never heard of them, they're a synth-pop group that started in Philadelphia in 1984, put together by art school students Ted Ottaviano, Susan Ottaviano, Jade Lee, and Lauren Roselli. The Ottavianos aren't related, by the way.
They put out a string of club and dance hits throughout the 1980s and early 1990s: "I Touch Roses," "Boy," "You Make Me Feel So Good," "Modigliani," "Pretty Boys and Pretty Girls," "Lullaby," "Witchcraft," "Alice Everyday," and "Boy Pop." Their single "Sunny Day" ended up in the movie Silence of the Lambs, and Lauren Roselli actually appears in the film too. In 2003, they released a best-of collection, I Touch Roses: The Best of Book Of Love, which included a few new songs and a Peter Rauhofer remix of "Boy" that made the dance charts.
There's more to the story than the early hits. Ted and Lauren have kept working together on a newer project called The Myrmidons, and Ted has done production work for the NYC duo Dangerous Muse. So while the name brings back the 80s, they've stayed active in the years since.
