Concert by the Finnish-Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist Bahamas at The Kessler Theater.
Bahamas plays The Kessler Theater on Wednesday, November 18, at 8 PM. If you're not familiar with the name, it's a stage name, not a place of origin: behind it is Afie Jurvanen, a Finnish-Canadian singer, songwriter, and guitarist from Barrie, a working-class town in rural Ontario. He's been writing songs since 2009, and the name is a bit of a wink—he's not from the Bahamas, but he's spent years writing about sunsets, love affairs, and crooked smiles, leaning on simple arrangements to escape the snow belt for the coral reefs.
Jurvanen is an award-winning Ontario native who eventually moved to the coast of Nova Scotia with his wife and two daughters. His 2018 album Earthtones earned a Grammy nomination and featured bassist Pino Palladino and drummer James Gadson, the rhythm section behind D'Angelo's Black Messiah. He recorded Sad Hunk with a similar team, produced by multi-Grammy nominee Robbie Lackritz, and that record also brought in the guitar work of Sam Weber, a virtually unknown musician Jurvanen discovered on YouTube. Along the way, he's written with Dee White and Pat McLaughlin.

It's a solo billing, so the night is built around his songs and his guitar. The show is at The Kessler Theater, 1230 W Davis St, in Dallas, on Wednesday, November 18, starting at 8 PM.
