Free DJ session with reggae, dancehall and dub in the Bar Room of The Pizzuti at the Columbus Museum of Art.
Tim Blender and Jah-Shaolin are taking over the Bar Room at The Pizzuti on Friday, October 30, from 7 PM to 10 PM. It's a DJ set focused on reggae, dancehall, and dub, with the two of them sharing the decks throughout the night.
If you haven't spent much time there, The Pizzuti is a wing of the Columbus Museum of Art at 632 N Park St. The museum describes it as an extension of its mission to bring great art to everyone, and it hosts exhibitions, performances, and artist-driven projects centered on global contemporary art. The Bar Room itself is a permanent installation by artist Tavares Strachan, who turned a third-floor gallery into a space for connection, conviviality, and cultural memory. It's a gallery that doubles as a social spot, so the night sits somewhere between a dance floor and an art space.
As for the music, the focus is on the Caribbean sounds that define the set: reggae, dancehall, and dub. Reggae brings the steady, rhythmic foundation; dancehall pushes it into faster, more danceable territory; and dub strips it back, playing with echo and reverb to let the bass and the beat take center stage. With two DJs on, the night should keep moving across those styles rather than sticking to just one.
