Free family-friendly concerts by ProMusica Chamber Orchestra at library branches, combining classical music and children's literature.
ProMusica Chamber Orchestra is playing at the Columbus Metropolitan Library - Main Library on Sunday, October 18, at 2 PM. It's part of the ProMusica Family-friendly Library Concerts, a series that brings the orchestra to different CML branches across the city as part of the library's concert program.
Each performance pairs classical music with children's literature, built around a particular musical theme. The music is staged alongside a display of books and stories that echo the program, so you can browse the shelves and find the stories that go with what you're hearing. It's a good way to introduce kids to classical music without it feeling like a formal recital.
The series also feeds into ProMusica Storytimes, which are free sessions tailored for preschoolers at many CML branches. Those are a bit different: a unique theme binds story and song, and the musicians co-host alongside the librarians, so the kids get to see the instruments up close while they listen. If you have little ones, those storytimes are a nice companion to the main concerts.
