Final North American tour by former King Crimson members performing the music of King Crimson, featuring Steve Vai, Adrian Belew, Terry Bozzio and Tony Levin.
BEAT plays the Palace Theatre on Wednesday, October 28, at 8 PM. It's a supergroup built around former King Crimson members Adrian Belew and Tony Levin, joined by guitar virtuoso Steve Vai and drummer Terry Bozzio. The Columbus date is presented by the Columbus Association for the Performing Arts (CAPA).
Rather than attempting to recreate the original recordings, the band offers a creative reinterpretation of the music of the influential English prog group. The set focuses on the three landmark 1980s albums Discipline, Beat, and Three of a Perfect Pair, with material beyond them mixed in. It's a look at that era of the band's catalog from a different angle, played by musicians who were there for part of it.
This is the group's final North American tour, following more than 100 performances across North and South America, Europe, and Japan. On this leg, Bozzio takes over the drums from Danny Carey, who is unavailable due to his Tool commitments. Belew called Carey "a true BEAT-Poet" and said he helped shape the band's identity, while Vai described Bozzio as "one of the truly legendary drummers of our time."
