A dog-friendly Halloween trick-or-treat route through German Village with participating businesses, a costume contest, and check-in at the Cakehound tent.
Howlin' Hound Trick or Treat takes over German Village on Sunday, October 25, from 12 PM to 3 PM. It's a dog-friendly Halloween walk through the neighborhood, put on by Cakehound along with the German Village Society and Stop the Suffering.
Here's how it works: you check in at the Cakehound tent in Schiller Park, at the corner of Jaeger and Deshler, and pick up a trick-or-treat map. From there, you follow a route of about two to three miles past local businesses that have signed on to participate. It's a rain-or-shine event, so you'll be out there regardless of the weather. Dogs have to be kept on a lead, and retractable leads aren't allowed, so keep that in mind when you're getting ready.
Costumes are encouraged, and there's a costume contest with prizes that will be announced later through social media. If you're planning on dressing up your dog, that's where you'll want to put in the effort. The whole thing is organized by Cakehound, the German Village Society, and Stop the Suffering, so it's a community effort with a few local names behind it.
