Free all-ages celebration of Día de los Muertos with personal ofrendas, poetry readings, dance performances, hands-on art activities and traditional refreshments.
Wexner Center for the Arts is hosting Día de los Muertos on Friday, October 30, starting at 4 PM. It's a free event open to all ages, and the Center lists it as one of its signature happenings, alongside its annual Wex Open House and exhibition openings.
The afternoon is built around moments of reflection on those who have died, with personal ofrendas, poetry readings, dance performances, and hands-on art-making activities. There are also free refreshments, including tamales, hot chocolate, and traditional pan de muerto. The Center is also running its fifth annual Día de los Muertos drawing and coloring contest, open to children and adults, which aims to introduce the holiday to those unfamiliar with it and to strengthen the relationship between Ohio State and Latin American and Latinx cultures.
The celebration is presented by the Wexner Center in collaboration with Ohio State's Department of Spanish and Portuguese, the Latinx Studies Program, the Center for Latin American Studies, the Office of Engagement, and the Department of Dance. Together they frame Día de los Muertos as a Latin American tradition with Mesoamerican Indigenous roots.
