Live show by Hoodoo Soul Band at Rumba Cafe on Summit Street in Columbus.
Hoodoo Soul Band plays Rumba Cafe on Sunday, October 18. It's a single-bill night, so they're the only act on the program.
If you're not already familiar, the name tells you exactly where they're coming from. It's soul music with a deep, rootsy lean—the kind of sound that works just as well for a slow dance as it does for a full room. They've built their name around that particular pocket, and this is a headlining slot, so you'll get a full set from them rather than a short opening turn.
Rumba Cafe is over on Summit Street, and since it's a Sunday night, it's one of those gigs that fits right into a low-key weekend. The doors open at 8 PM, and the band takes the stage at 9 PM, so you've got plenty of time to get in and settle before they start. Tickets are $12.00.
