A casual chess session held at The Pizzuti, the Columbus Museum of Art's satellite campus in the Short North Arts District, where visitors can play on site.
Chess Sundays are happening at The Pizzuti, the Columbus Museum of Art's satellite campus in the Short North Arts District. It's a straightforward setup: you just grab a board and play on site. The sessions run every Sunday from 10 AM to 4 PM, now through January 3, so you've got plenty of weekends to work with if this one doesn't fit your schedule.
If you haven't spent much time there, The Pizzuti is a historic 1911 building dedicated to the museum's contemporary art collection. The grounds were redesigned by the award-winning studio TERREMOTO in their first Midwest project, which planted more than seventy native species. Inside, a third-floor gallery is home to Bar Room (2022/2025), a permanent installation by artist Tavares Strachan that turns the room into a fully realized reggae bar. The space also hosts Night Shift, a monthly evening series with rotating DJs.
It also houses the Bill Horrigan Study Collection, gifted by the curator and writer Bill Horrigan (1951-2025), whose career at The Ohio State University's Wexner Center helped establish Columbus as a hub for experimental film and video. So, between the chess, you can wander through the contemporary art and the film collection.
