Annual family-friendly harvest party with trunk-or-treat, games, candy and a short run of the haunted house at the Barnett Community Center.
The Barnett Community Center is hosting its annual Harvest Fall Party & Haunted House on Wednesday, October 28, from 5:30 PM to 7:00 PM. It's a Columbus Recreation and Parks Department tradition, and the evening is built around two different speeds: a family-friendly outdoor gathering and a short run through the haunted house. Between the two, there's a trunk-or-treat, games, and plenty of candy, so it's the kind of thing you can bring the kids to and let them work their way through the activities at their own pace.
The haunted house is the part that gives the night its name, and it's a separate experience from the outdoor party. You can spend as much or as little time as you like with the games and the trunk-or-treat before deciding when to step inside. Since the whole thing runs for only ninety minutes, it's a relatively quick window, so if you're planning to do both the party and the haunted house, you'll want to arrive closer to the start than the end.
There's also a bit more to this than just one night. The community center continues its outreach into the following month, when eligible families can pick up a one-week supply of fresh produce at no cost on a first-come, first-served basis. It's a separate thing from the party, but it's part of the same effort the center puts into the neighborhood.
