A family-friendly Halloween concert by the BBC National Orchestra of Wales featuring spooky pop and film themes, with two afternoon sessions.
The BBC National Orchestra of Wales are back at BBC Hoddinott Hall on Saturday 31 October for their Halloween Spooktacular, a family celebration that returns each Halloween. They're billing it as an afternoon adventure of spooky favourites, mysterious music and big orchestral thrills, and dressing up is encouraged. The orchestra describes it as a day where they conjure up ghosts, goblins and grins.
The programme pairs pop-culture and cinematic themes with classical showpieces. You'll hear The Addams Family Theme, Danse Macabre, and Thriller as arranged by Gordon Hamilton. There are also Highlights from Wicked, arranged by Ted Ricketts, and the Ghostbusters theme, arranged by Paul Campbell. The set is conducted by Barbara Dragan.
One thing that makes this a bit different from a standard concert is how it's scheduled. The day is split into two afternoon sessions, so audiences can take in the music twice. It's an orchestra on the stage, not a band, and the whole thing is aimed at families.
