New Theatre production of Agatha Christie's mystery with Peter Polycarpou as Hercule Poirot, directed by Lucy Bailey.
Agatha Christie's The Hollow opens at the New Theatre on Tuesday 17 November, running through to Saturday 21 November. It's a Poirot mystery, with Peter Polycarpou taking the role of the detective, and it's directed by Lucy Bailey. The play is an adaptation by Tamsin Oglesby, and it arrives in Cardiff after a few years of Christie plays touring the UK.
The story starts at an elegant country estate where Lucy and Henry Angkatell are hosting a weekend garden party. A body is found poolside, and Poirot is called in to investigate. It's billed as one of Christie's most powerful and arresting plays: it begins as a country-house mystery, then opens up into something richerβa family clinging to the past, with failed relationships and illicit love at the heart of it. If you're used to the more straightforward whodunnits, this one leans a bit more into the family drama.
Behind the scenes, the production is presented by Fiery Angel, who're reuniting with director Lucy Bailey after sell-out tours of Murder on the Orient Express and Death on the Nile. It's part of a wider Christie revival on the stage; she wrote more than 25 plays, including The Mousetrap, which has been running since 1952 and is the longest-running play in the world. This one is a Poirot mystery, so it's the Belgian detective leading the way.
