Stage adaptation of Shirley Jackson's novel and the Netflix series, with a group of investigators drawn into the mystery of Hill House.
The Haunting of Hill House comes to The Arts Theatre Cambridge from 17 to 21 November, a short run that brings Shirley Jackson's best-selling novel and the hit Netflix series to the stage. It's a new adaptation by Stef Smith, billed as the definitive haunted house story, and it sits in that space between heart-thumping suspense and the supernatural. The production is presented by Mark Puddle, with Alexander 'Sandy' Marshall and Patrick Myles, a Wiltshire Creative production in association with Theatr Clwyd.
The story follows a group of daring investigators who take on the mystery of Hill House, and as they dig in, curiosity turns to fear while strange disturbances ripple through the house's twisting corridors. It's described as tense, unsettling and darkly playful, and it blurs the line between the psychological and the paranormal. If you're familiar with the book or the series, you'll recognise the core of it, but this is a fresh take for the stage.
The cast is led by Jasper Britton as Dr Montague, with Jemma Churchill as Mrs Montague, Sian Howard as Mrs Dudley, Sophie Lenglinger as Theo, Robin Morrissey as Luke, and Clancy Ryan as Eleanor. It's a fairly large ensemble for a play, and the story revolves around how each of them reacts as the house begins to push back.
