Immersive sensory theatre reimagining of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream by The Blanket Fort Club, designed for children with complex needs and disabilities.
The Blanket Fort Club bring The Colour of Impossible Things to Cambridge Junction on Monday 26 April 2027, with two performances that day: one at 11:30 am and another at 2:00 pm. It's a sensory theatre reimagining of Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, directed by George Stone and put together with students at Kelford School in Rotherham.
The setup is a bit of a twist on the original: three teacher-clowns — a science teacher, a PE teacher and an English teacher — find themselves locked inside the school hall of Athens Academy with their class, which is the audience. From there, they stumble into a world of games, invisible monsters and a magical forest that bursts through the walls, transformed by shifting rainbows, scents, tactile textures and 360° spatial sound. The show blends original Shakespeare text with contemporary storytelling, clowning, puppetry and live music, and ends with the audience walking through a sensory forest.
It's designed to be fully accessible for children with complex needs, disabilities and PMLD, so it's a good one if you're bringing a group with mixed needs. The running time is around 50 minutes with no interval, and it's recommended for ages 5 to 11.
