Live show by the nine-piece UK brass band The Brass Funkeys at Cambridge Junction, part of the Cambridge Jazz Festival Plus.
The Brass Funkeys play Cambridge Junction on Friday 6 November, part of the Cambridge Jazz Festival Plus. It's a standing show in J2, so you'll be on your feet for this one.
They're a nine-piece collective that's been around since 2011, and they describe themselves as a trailblazer in the new generation of UK brass bands. The sound comes from the strong personalities and eclectic tastes of the members, and it pays homage to their New Orleans brass band roots. They've spent fourteen years honing that craft across the UK and European club and festival circuits, so they're well-travelled by the time they hit Cambridge.
It's a big band on stage, and the New Orleans influence is the thread that holds it together. The whole thing sits within the Cambridge Jazz Festival Plus, which gives you a sense of the company they'll be keeping that week. If you're bringing anyone younger, under-14s have to be accompanied by an adult.
