Comedy show by Cambridge Footlights alum Julia Da Costa, with a ukulele and songs, about a space mission gone wrong.
Julia Da Costa brings Stuck in Orbit to the Corpus Playroom on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 November, both nights starting at 21:30. It's a comedy show presented by The Cambridge Footlights as part of Michaelmas Week 4, and Da Costa is a Footlights alum returning to the stage.
The premise is a simple one that goes wrong: Da Costa sets off on a solo space mission to cure a lifelong fear, only for the plan to go awry and leave her stranded in outer space. From there, she turns the ordeal into an evening of comedy, characters and songs about what it really means to face one's fears. The ukulele is her only companion up there, and it figures into the show as much as the songs do.
It's a one-woman show, so the characters and the songs are all coming from her, and the whole thing is built around that single, stranded voice. The setup — a solo mission that doesn't go to plan — gives her a reason to be talking to herself and singing her way through the situation, and the comedy comes from how she handles being stuck in the middle of nowhere with nothing but a ukulele and a dream.
