The Corpus Playroom's showcase of new student-written plays by the Fletcher Players, with a different selection of short plays each night.
Smörgåsbord returns to the Corpus Playroom on Tuesday 20 October, with a second night on Tuesday 1 December. It's the Playroom's own showcase of new student-written theatre, a compilation show that changes from night to night, so what you see on one date won't be the same as the other.
For more than a decade it's been a rite of passage for emerging student playwrights in Cambridge, and the event at the heart of the Playroom's calendar. The Fletcher Players, Corpus Christi's amateur dramatic society and the room's resident company, run the night once every Michaelmas and Lent. They use it to bring to the fore underrepresented narratives, cultural lineages and writers who haven't previously had their work audienced.
The Playroom itself opened in 1979 in disused college rooms on St Edward's Passage and has since fostered talents like Hugh Bonneville, Sam Mendes, Emma Corrin and Stephen Fry, who wrote the play Latin! for its opening. It's an L-shaped studio that seats about 80, so you're never far from the action.
