A big band show celebrating the songs of Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, with guest vocalists Tom Huttlestone and Elaine Riches.
Opus One Big Band are playing St Andrew's Street Baptist Church on Friday 13 November, with guest vocalists Tom Huttlestone and Elaine Riches. It's a night built around the songs of Frank Sinatra and the Rat Pack, and they're bringing a full 17-piece big band to back them.
While Sinatra and the Rat Pack take centre stage, the set reaches beyond them to other vocal legends of that era. You'll hear Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis Jr and Ella Fitzgerald alongside the Sinatra songs, so it's more of a survey of the great mid-century singers than a one-man tribute. The 17-piece band provides the brass and rhythm section that these songs were written for, rather than a smaller ensemble or a backing track.
On the singing front, Tom Huttlestone and Elaine Riches share the lead, so you'll get both male and female voices across the set. The Rat Pack songs lean into that classic crooner style, while the Ella Fitzgerald numbers bring in the jazz tradition she's known for. With two singers and a full big band, the evening covers a good stretch of the great American songbook.
