Live show by the Scottish band Peatbog Faeries, presented in partnership with the Cambridge Folk Festival.
Peatbog Faeries play Cambridge Junction on Wednesday 28 October, a show presented in partnership with the Cambridge Folk Festival. They're a multi-award-winning Scottish Hall of Fame band from the Isle of Skye, and they've spent years working at the front of a new interpretation of traditional Scottish music. It's the kind of sound that crosses so many genres it's notoriously hard to pin down.
At its core, their music draws on jigs and reels, but it folds in dance music, jazz, hip hop, reggae and African influences. That mix has earned them descriptions like 'psychedelic bagpipe funk' and a fair few warnings not to mistake it for 'tartan techno'. It's a long way from the ceilidh hall, and that's exactly the point.
2023 marked a fresh start for them with their tenth album, I See a World, which brought Shetlander Norman Willmore into the fold on keys and alto sax. The critics have been on board: fRoots called them 'gloriously unpredictable, a band to treasure', and they've been described as 'the future of Celtic dance music' after a Best Live Act nomination at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards.
