Olivier and Tony Award-winning musical about the secret 1943 mission that helped win World War II.
Operation Mincemeat opens at The Arts Theatre on Monday 19 October, running through to Saturday 24 October. It's the Olivier and Tony Award-winning musical about the secret mission that helped win World War II, and it's coming to Cambridge after a run in London and a transfer to Broadway.
The story is set in 1943 and it's a true one, though it sounds like something made up: a stolen corpse, a fake love letter, and Ian Fleming — long before Bond — pitted against Hitler. It's a fast-paced, funny account of the intelligence operation that tricked the Axis powers, and it's been described as one of the year's funniest musicals. Critics have compared it to a mix of Singin' in the Rain, Strangers on a Train, Mel Brooks, SIX, Hamilton and One Man, Two Guvnors, so it's a bit of a hybrid — part war story, part farce, with a musical thread running through it.
It's a fair amount of theatre to sit through: the show runs 2 hours 35 minutes including the interval, and it's recommended for ages 14 and over. The run is short, just six days, so you'll want to pick your night early.
