Electropop opera by Dave Malloy, based on Tolstoy's War and Peace, at Cambridge Junction.
Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 runs at Cambridge Junction from Wednesday 18 January to Saturday 22 January 2027. It's an electropop opera by Dave Malloy, presented by Between the Bars Theatre, and it takes its story from Tolstoy's War and Peace.
If you're not familiar with the source, the show focuses on a specific slice of the novel: the young Natasha Rostova, the awkward Pierre Bezukhov, and the social whirl of early 19th-century Russian society. Malloy's version is an electropop opera, so it's not a traditional stage adaptation of the book. It's a musical piece that brings the characters and the setting to life through song, with the electropop sound giving the whole thing a contemporary energy that sits alongside the period setting. Between the Bars Theatre is the company bringing it to the city, and Dave Malloy is the writer and composer behind the music.
The run goes on for five nights, starting on Wednesday 18 January and continuing through to Saturday 22 January, so you've got a few different dates to choose from if you can't make the opening. It's playing in J2 at the Junction, which is an unreserved seating space, so there's no assigned seat to worry about — you just turn up and find a spot.
