Spoken word show by classicist and author Natalie Haynes on the monsters of Greek mythology, followed by a book signing.
Natalie Haynes brings her spoken word show Irresistible Monster to Cambridge Junction on Sunday 28 February 2027, starting at 7:30 PM. It's a night dedicated to the monsters of ancient Greek mythology, with Haynes taking the lead as writer, broadcaster and classicist.
Throughout the show, she works her way through the Greek bestiary, from Echidna to the Minotaur, and doesn't just recount the myths. She challenges the common ways we think about these creatures and asks what actually makes a monster, and why we need them in the first place. It's a look at the figures that usually get pushed to the margins of the stories, and the reasons we keep coming back to them.
Haynes has been speaking on the modern relevance of the classical world for about fifteen years, on tours that have taken her across many countries and three continents. She's also written and performed twelve series of the BBC Radio 4 show Natalie Haynes Stands up for the Classics, so this is well within her wheelhouse. The Washington Post once described her as a 'rock star mythologist', and she's a Women's Prize-shortlisted, bestselling author.
