Hip-hop comedian Mr B brings his 'Probably Accurate Hip-Hop History Show' and tour 'Straight Out Of Surrey' to The Portland Arms.
Mr B The Gentleman Rhymer plays The Portland Arms on Thursday 19 November, bringing his comedy hip-hop show to Cambridge. He calls the style 'Chap-Hop', a term he coined in 2007 after years as a Britrap hitmaker with the track 'Eat My Goal'. The set is titled Straight Out Of Surrey, and it's the full story of rap as he tells it.
It's a wide-ranging show. He describes it as his 'Probably Accurate Hip-Hop History Show', and it packs in previously unknown facts, stories, fly dancing and, in his own words, 'maybe a bit of fibbing'. He's as much a storyteller and beatmaker as he is a rapper, and he brings a banjolele into the mix too. The Daily Mail called him 'controversial', while The Telegraph called him a 'hip-hop comedy genius' and The Independent described him as 'hilarious'.
He's been at this for a long time. He's shared stages with Grandmaster Flash and Gravediggaz, and his beats and rhymes have taken him from the Royal Albert Hall to Osaka, and from Glastonbury to the Edinburgh Fringe. The album accompanying the tour is his fifteenth. His videos have gathered millions of views on YouTube, and his media appearances range from rapping for Jeremy Paxman on Newsnight to playing live on BBC Radio One for Rob Da Bank, Nick Grimshaw and Scott Mills. He describes himself as equal parts rapper, banjolele maverick, storyteller, beatmaker and dandy.
