A six-week open session for mothers with babies or pre-schoolers to explore movement and writing through guided exercises.
Emma Zangs and Helen Vine are running Moving Words at Cambridge Junction this autumn, a six-week open session for mothers with babies or pre-schoolers to explore movement and writing. It's a gentle, slow-paced space to move, rest, write and reflect, with simple guided exercises to help you connect with your shifting body, your emotions and your identity as a parent. Zangs describes it as a space to land when everything around you changes so fast, built on the idea that it takes a village to raise a mother.
Moving Words is part of Playtime, a ten-year multidisciplinary art project led by Zangs that looks at how creativity can support parents and make visible the lived realities of early parenthood. The project grew out of Zangs's own experience of postnatal depression and uses dance, poetry, light projection, live music and clowning to create spaces for parents and families. It's been supported by Arts Council England and partners like Norwich Theatre Royal, Sadler's Wells and Cambridge Junction.
It's an open session, so you can come with your baby or pre-schooler, or you can come on your own if that's what works for you. Mothers of all ages are welcome. Each session runs for ninety minutes to two hours, and the whole course spans six Tuesday mornings: 3, 10, 17, 24 November and 1, 8 December, from 10am to 12pm at J3 in the Junction. The cost is £150 for the six-week course for mother and child, with £5.50 per additional child per session payable on the door.
