Live show with Merry Skamas, Big 10, The Dekkertones and DJ SKA BAR STEVE at Cambridge Junction.
Merry Skamas are back at Cambridge Junction on Wednesday 23 December, with Big 10 and The Dekkertones on the bill and DJ SKA BAR STEVE on the decks. It's a full night of ska, and since it's just before Christmas, it works as a pre-holiday one if you're around the city that week.
Big 10 are the main draw here. They describe themselves as the UK's ultimate 2Tone and ska covers band, and the set follows that: they play the 2Tone and ska anthems you'll know from Madness, The Specials, Bad Manners, The Beat and The Selecter. It's a ten-piece band, so there's a full horn section on stage rather than a few tracks filling in the gaps. They're a Cambridge band, too, so this is a local night for them.
They've been around a long time. Jason Norden on vocals and Andy Perriss started the group at the end of 1999 — Perriss later played guitar for Neville Staple of The Specials. They're now celebrating their sixteenth year and have clocked up more than 700 gigs across the UK, so they've got the set down to a science. The Dekkertones join them on the bill, and DJ SKA BAR STEVE keeps things moving between the live acts.
