English folk duo Megson, the husband-and-wife team of Stu and Debbie Hanna, play the J2 stage at Cambridge Junction.
Megson play Cambridge Junction on Thursday 22 October, their only Cambridge date this autumn. The duo is Stu and Debbie Hanna, husband and wife, and they've built their sound on their Teesside heritage — a brand of English folk that blends ethereal vocals, lush harmonies and driving rhythmic guitar work. It's a particular kind of folk: the vocals carry the melody, the harmonies fill it out, and the guitar keeps it moving.
They've been around the folk circuit for a while now, with four BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominations and two Spiral Earth Awards to their name. They've also toured as support for Seth Lakeman, and Lakeman himself has endorsed their work, as has Radio 2's Bob Harris. The critics have been equally generous: Robin Denslow called them 'the most original duo on the British folk scene' in The Guardian, Neil Spencer described them as 'a force in the folk revival' in The Observer, and The Sunday Express put them down as 'simply brilliant'.
