Amateur production of R.C. Sherriff's play 'Journey's End' by the Fletcher Players, set on the Western Front in 1918.
The Fletcher Players are bringing Journey's End to the Corpus Playroom this November, with performances running from Tuesday 10 November to Saturday 14 November. It's an amateur production of R.C. Sherriff's play, and the run covers five nights in the middle of the month.
For those who haven't come across it, Journey's End is set on the Western Front in 1918, in the final months of the First World War. The story takes place in a dugout in the trenches of France, and it follows a group of officers as they wait for an attack that they know is coming. It's a play that spends its time in the quiet, claustrophobic moments between the fighting — the boredom, the nerves, and the way the men lean on each other when there's nothing left to do but wait.
Because it's a single-set play, it works well in a smaller space like the Corpus Playroom, where you're close enough to see the tension on the actors' faces. The Fletcher Players are an amateur company, so this is a local production rather than a professional one, and the run spans five nights, from the Tuesday opening through to the Saturday close.
