The Fletcher Players, Corpus Christi College's amateur dramatic society, present 'Ghost', in which a dead woman watches her family grieve.
The Fletcher Players are back at The Corpus Playroom from 21 to 24 October with Ghost, a play about a dead woman watching her family grieve. It's a small, focused premise that puts the weight on the reactions of the living, and it runs over four nights, with the first performance on Thursday 21 October.
If you're not familiar with the venue, The Corpus Playroom is one of Cambridge's most enduring theatrical spaces. It opened in 1979, when Caroline Oulten and Mark McCrum converted disused rooms on St Edward's Passage into a theatre. It's long been a student-led venue, and the list of alumni who've come through its doors reads like a who's who of British stage and screen: Hugh Bonneville, Sam Mendes, Emma Corrin, and Stephen Fry, who wrote the play Latin! for its opening. The Fletcher Players, Corpus Christi's amateur dramatic society, are the resident company and have always focused on original, daring student theatre.
For a long time they ran the Playroom themselves, before handing over management to the Cambridge Arts Theatre in 2001 and the ADC Theatre in 2011. These days they act primarily as a funding body, supporting several shows every term at the Playroom and the ADC, and staging Smörgåsbord, a night of new writing held once every Michaelmas and Lent. Ghost is one of those termly productions, and it's the Fletcher Players' turn to take the stage here.
