Double bill of prog rock from EBB, the Erin Bennett Band, and the John Hackett Band, with flute textures and jazz-inflected compositions.
EBB and the John Hackett Band share a bill at J2, Cambridge Junction on Wednesday 4 November, starting at 8:00 PM. It's a double bill that puts two different takes on progressive rock on the same stage in one night.
EBB, the Erin Bennett Band, started as a pop-rock act that kept drifting into prog before leaning into it fully. These days their live shows bring in video and stage actors, so there's more to it than just the music. The line-up is a big one: Erin Bennett on guitars, lead vocals and trumpet; Suna Dasi on backing vocals and synths; Bad Dog on bass; Nikki Francis on Hammond, piano, synths, saxophone, flute, clarinet; Anna Fraser on drums and percussion; and Kitty Biscuits on backing vocals, percussion and spoken word poetry. With that many instruments and voices on stage, there's a lot going on at once.
The John Hackett Band sits squarely in the prog tradition. John Hackett has been a fixture of the scene since the mid-70s, best known for his flute work alongside his brother, former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett, on albums like Voyage of The Acolyte, Please Don't Touch and Spectral Mornings. He's also put out solo records, including Checking Out Of London, Another Life and The Piper Plays His Tune. The group's 2025 album Red Institution was followed by a 2026 tour, and this date is part of that run. The set blends Hackett's pastoral flute textures with the band's more energetic, jazz-inflected compositions, so you get the melodic side of the flute and the tighter, punchier side of the band in the same evening. He's joined by Duncan Parsons, Jeremy Richardson and Nick Fletcher.
