Jack Thorne's play about a man who tries to bury his brother in the pavement where he died, staged by the Cambridge University Amateur Dramatic Club.
Burying Your Brother in the Pavement runs at The Corpus Playroom from 17 to 21 November, one of the Cambridge University Amateur Dramatic Club's Freshers' Plays for 2026. It's written by Jack Thorne, who you might know from Adolescence or Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and the CUADC is staging it by arrangement with Nick Hern Books.
The play follows Tom, whose brother Luke has been killed. Tom decides to try and bury Luke in the pavement of the Tunstall Estate where he died, and as he sleeps rough there, he crosses paths with planning officials, tramps, undertakers, police, ghosts and a strange lad called Tight who wants to sell him a Travelcard. It's a play about grief, and it's suitable for ages 12 and over.
The venue is The Corpus Playroom, at 10 St Edward's Passage, CB2 3PJ. It opened in 1979 in disused Corpus Christi rooms and has since become Cambridge's primary fringe space. It's run by the Fletcher Players, the college's amateur dramatic society and resident company, and its following has included Hugh Bonneville, Sam Mendes, Emma Corrin and Stephen Fry.
