Ross Wilson's Blue Rose Code project plays a stripped-back solo and duo show to launch its new album 'East Of Eden'.
Blue Rose Code play the NCI Centre on Sunday 18 October, part of the East Of Eden tour. The project is the work of Ross Wilson, an acclaimed Edinburgh singer-songwriter, and this is one of the dates he's taking it back on the road. It's a stripped-back show, alternating between solo and duo performances, and it centres on his new album, East Of Eden, which is due for release.
Wilson's songwriting pulls from a few different places at once: Scottish folk, soul, jazz, and a poetic approach to lyrics. The set is built around the songs themselves, and the tour is taking them into smaller venues rather than the larger stages he's played recently. He's coming off a run of headline festival appearances and a sold-out date at Celtic Connections in Glasgow, so this is a return to the more direct, personal side of the project.
Critics have described the set as almost religious in intensity and sincerity, and they've drawn comparisons to Van Morrison. It's that kind of evening — focused on the voice and the songwriting, with the arrangements kept lean enough to let the songs stand on their own. If you're into folk and soul that doesn't hide behind a big band, this is exactly that.
