A Christmas Carol adapted by Lorenzo Zambrana, presented by the National Performing Academy's Young Drama company at the Corkscrew Theatre.
A Christmas Carol comes to the Corpus Playroom on Tuesday 15 December, a few weeks before the big day. It's the National Performing Academy's Young Drama company taking on the Dickens classic, and they've gone for an adaptation by Lorenzo Zambrana.
If you've seen the story a hundred times, it's still worth seeing it on stage, especially when it's a young company bringing it to life. The Young Drama company is the performing arm of the National Performing Academy, so these are students rather than seasoned pros, which usually means the energy is high and the whole thing feels a bit more like a community effort than a polished West End production. Zambrana's adaptation is the version they're working from, so it's his take on the Scrooge we all know.
It's a mid-week show in the middle of December, so it's one of those things that fits into the run-up to Christmas without taking over your whole week. The Corpus Playroom is a proper Cambridge spot, tucked away and intimate enough that you're right on top of the action rather than watching from the back of a big hall. If you're looking for something to do that's a bit more local and less commercial than the big theatre runs, this is exactly that kind of night.
