Improvisation comedy show with a celebrity guest and the UK's best improvisers, inspired by the audience.
Kiell Smith-Bynoe brings his improvised show Kool Story Bro to Bristol Old Vic on Thursday 19 and Friday 20 November, both nights starting at 7:30pm. The title shares his initials, and the format is as straightforward as it sounds: each performance opens with real-life anecdotes from the audience, which the performers then turn into spontaneous stage sketches. There's no script and no set structure, so every show is entirely unique.
Smith-Bynoe is an East London actor, writer and comedian who first made his mark as Dean in Stath Lets Flats before playing Mike in the BBC One sitcom Ghosts. He created the Channel 4 sketch show Red Flag in 2022, finished runner-up in Series 15 of Taskmaster, hosted the tenth series of The Great British Sewing Bee in 2024, and is a writer and cast member on Mitchell And Webb Are Not Helping. Kool Story Bro is his live improvised show, and it arrives in Bristol following a huge debut national tour and sold-out runs in London, Edinburgh and across the UK; critics have called it a 'gem of a show' and 'engrossingly hysterical'.
On stage, Smith-Bynoe is joined by a celebrity guest each night and a cast of UK improvisers. The guest list changes from one performance to the next, and previous guests have included Amelia Dimoldenberg, Lily Allen, Jamie Demitriou, Adam Buxton, Mo Gilligan, Loly Adefope, Nish Kumar, Charlotte Ritchie, Guz Khan and Munya Chawawa. Because the sketches are built from the audience's own stories, the material changes every night, and the guest on the 19th will be different from the one on the 20th.
