Award-winning improvised musical comedy where audience suggestions are turned into all-singing, all-dancing productions on the spot.
The Showstoppers are bringing Showstopper! The Improvised Musical to the Bristol Old Vic for a run in January 2027. It's an improvised musical comedy, which means they don't walk on stage with a script or a setlist. Instead, they take suggestions from the audience and turn them into a full singing and dancing production on the spot. Every performance is built from scratch, so what happens one night won't be the same as the next.
They've been doing this for sixteen years, starting as an Edinburgh Fringe must-see and picking up a BBC Radio 4 series and a critically acclaimed West End run along the way. They've also got an Olivier Award to their name, so this isn't just a few people making it up as they go — it's a polished act that's spent over a decade refining the format. Time Out called it 'achingly funny, worth seeing again and again', and the Evening Standard described it as 'a success story that could run and run'.

The run starts on Tuesday 12 January and goes through to Saturday 16 January. There are evening shows at 19:30 on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, and on Saturday there's a matinee at 14:30 as well as the 19:30 performance. That's six shows in one week, so if you can't make the weekday slots, the Saturday double gives you a couple of options. The venue is the Bristol Old Vic on King Street, BS1 4ED.
