A rural coming-of-age story by Bristol Old Vic's Young Company, written and directed by Maddie Wakeling, exploring fate, friendship and the lives we choose.
Isle of Glass runs from 20 to 23 January 2027 at The Weston Studio, inside the Bristol Old Vic (BS1 4ED). It's the latest production from the Bristol Old Vic Young Company, written and directed by Maddie Wakeling.
The play is a rural coming-of-age story set against the Somerset levels, just outside Glastonbury. It follows the same group of friends across different moments in time as they build their own utopia and traditions on the edge of a place that was once a site of religious pilgrimage and is now a counter-cultural haven. It's a story about fate, the lives we choose and the friendships that sustain us.
Because it's a Young Company production, the cast is made up of the company's emerging talent rather than established names, and it's the latest show they've put together. The Somerset levels setting puts it right on our doorstep, and the story spans different points in the characters' lives, so you'll see the group change and grow as the play moves forward.
