An interactive theatre experience with physical comedy and audience participation, bringing people together for fun.
Seamas Carey brings Community Service to Bristol Old Vic on Wednesday 28 October, the first of a run that goes through to Saturday 31 October. It's an interactive show, so you can choose to get involved or just sit back and watch from the audience. The whole thing runs for around 60 minutes with no interval, and it's suitable for all ages, though children need to be accompanied by an adult.
Carey wrote and stars the piece himself, and it's built around a character called Geoff, who's been sent by The Council to build a new community and spread social cohesion, harmony and collective joy. The catch is that Geoff hates people. Over the course of the hour, the audience is nudged into helping him see the good in people again. Carey describes the work as interactive and inclusive, and himself as 'anarchic, joyful and accessible'. It's won international awards, and the comedy comes from that mix of sincerity and mischief he's known for.
