Workshop to make a traditional four-foot Yule garland from dried citrus, cranberries, cinnamon and star anise, with all materials provided.
Alchymis is hosting a Yule Garland workshop on Friday 20 November, with a second date on Saturday 28 November for anyone who can't make the first. It's a hands-on session where you make a traditional Yule garland from real herbs and plants—a natural alternative to the synthetic decorations that usually take over this time of year.
Each garland runs four feet long, and you build yours from dried citrus, cranberries, cinnamon sticks, star aniseed, cloves and popcorn. All the materials are provided, so you just turn up and get stuck in. The idea is to bring the scent of real plants into your home rather than relying on a plastic version, and since you're making it yourself, you can decide where it goes—above the mantle or draped around the tree.
While you work, there's warming holiday herbal tea to sip on, and you'll be doing it alongside other nature lovers, so it's as much about the company as the crafting. It's a slow way to get your home ready for the season, and you leave with something you actually made yourself.
