TTNG are playing Brighton Electric on Sunday 16 August, with Meet Your Heroes and Le Mesmer on the bill. It's an intimate evening of math rock, jazz-rock and prog, and TTNG are using the date to warm up for their UK tour.
TTNG are the headliners, and they describe their sound as math rock meeting emo — gently brain-twisting yet gloriously emotional. If you've heard them before, that's the math rock side coming through: the odd time signatures and shifting rhythms that keep you on your toes, balanced out by the melodic, emotive side that stops it from feeling like a technical exercise. They're playing this as a warm-up for their UK tour, so it's a chance to catch them in a smaller room before they head out on the road.
They're joined by two instrumental acts. Meet Your Heroes are a Brighton-based trio playing a fusion of jazz-rock and math rock, so they sit comfortably in the same territory as the headliners. Le Mesmer are a duo working in mathy, proggy, post-rock territory, and they describe their own output as wholesome pop hits — which is a funny way to talk about instrumental music, but it gives you an idea of where their head is at. Between the three, the night stays firmly in the math rock and instrumental fusion camp.
