Strange Creatures: A Beegu Story comes to the Brighton Dome on Tuesday 16 and Wednesday 17 February 2027, with three performances each day at 10:30, 13:15 and 15:15. It's a musical theatre adventure for children aged 3-7 and their families, based on the book Beegu by Alexis Deacon, which he both wrote and illustrated. The production is performed by arrangement with Penguin Random House Children's Publishers UK.
On stage, the story is told through chamber music, with parts written for violin, viola and cello, alongside singing, drumming and plenty of fun and games. It's a gentle way of exploring themes of childhood and belonging, so it's as much for the adults coming along as it is for the little ones. If you've read the book, you'll recognise the characters and the world it builds; if not, it's a good place to start.
The show also ties into the Dome's Crafty Kids workshops, where children aged 3-10 can work with a parent or carer to make their own alien creature. It's a nice way to keep the story going after the curtain comes down, and something to take home.
