A 90-minute interactive masterclass where guests learn the art of shucking oysters, sample hot and cold preparations, and receive a goodie bag with oyster knife and apron.
Riddle & Finns are running an oyster opening masterclass on Saturday 26 September, and they've got a second date on Saturday 31 October if the first doesn't suit. Both run from 10:30 to 12:00 at their place in the Kings Road Arches, 139 Kings Road Arches, Brighton, BN1 2FN.
Riddle & Finns have been serving seafood here for 20 years, and they describe themselves as connoisseurs when it comes to oysters. This is a 90-minute interactive session built to turn guests into oyster aficionados. It starts with the history and provenance of the oyster and the subtle differences between species, and from there you move into the practical side. You'll sample both hot and cold preparations and learn the art of shucking with hands-on guidance, so you'll be doing the work yourself rather than just watching.
One of the things that sets this apart is the sheer amount of what you get to eat and drink. Each guest gets 19 oysters, a Bloody Mary, a glass of English sparkling, and a glass of champagne. And you don't leave empty-handed: everyone goes home with a goodie bag containing a Riddle & Finns tote bag, an oyster knife, a bottle of House Tomato juice pickle, an Oyster Expert Apron, and an Oyster Masterclass Handbook. Between the tasting and the kit, you'll have enough to keep going at home.
