Jim Al-Khalili: How Physics Make The Universe Tick

Jim Al-Khalili brings his live science show to the Brighton Dome on Sunday 1 November, starting at 13:00. The session is called How Physics Make The Universe Tick, and it's built around his new book, On Time.

Al-Khalili is a theoretical physicist at the University of Surrey, where he holds the Distinguished Chair in Physics and a university chair in Public Engagement in Science. He's a prolific author and broadcaster, with 14 popular-science books translated into 26 languages. He hosts the long-running BBC Radio 4 programme The Life Scientific and presented the Bafta-nominated documentary Chemistry: a volatile history. He received an OBE in 2007 for services to science.

For this show, he draws on On Time to walk through some of the deepest mysteries of the universe. He starts in the quantum world, where the rules of time dissolve, then moves to space-time warped by gravity, and finally to the thermodynamic arrow that insists time flows only one way. It's a wide sweep, from the smallest scales of physics up to the shape of the cosmos itself, and he's the one guiding you through it.

Tickets are £34.50 or £39.50 depending on where you sit, with a concession price of £24.50. If you want the book as well, that's £56.50 or £61.50, with a concession of £46.50. It's a Sunday afternoon slot at the Dome, so it works as a standalone trip rather than a late one.
