An interactive 90-minute experience learning the art of shucking oysters with hands-on guidance, tastings, and a goodie bag.
If you have ever found yourself staring at a plate of oysters at Riddle & Finns, wondering how exactly to tackle them without making a mess, there is a workshop coming up that might be of interest. The restaurant, located at 139 Kings Road Arches, is hosting an Oyster Opening Masterclass, a 90-minute session designed to walk you through the practical side of shucking. It is a hands-on experience where you get to learn about the history of the shellfish, where they come from, and the differences between various species, all while getting guidance on the technique required to open them properly.

The session is structured to be quite comprehensive, covering both the educational and the tasting aspects. Over the course of the hour and a half, you will be working through 19 oysters, prepared in both hot and cold styles. To accompany the food, the experience includes a Bloody Mary upon arrival, a glass of English sparkling wine, and a glass of champagne. By the end of the class, you also walk away with a 'goodie bag' that includes a Riddle and Finns tote bag, an oyster knife, a bottle of Pickle House tomato juice, an expert apron, and a manual to refer back to later.
These masterclasses are scheduled throughout the latter half of 2026, specifically on July 25, August 29, September 26, and October 31. Each session takes place on a Saturday morning, running from 10:30 to 12:00. Given that the event involves the consumption of alcohol, it is aimed at an adult audience. The cost for the experience is £85.00 per person. It is a straightforward way to spend a Saturday morning if you are looking to pick up a new skill while enjoying a bit of brunch-style hospitality by the seafront.
