British singer-songwriter Nick Harper performs two sessions, including an all-ages matinee, of his spellbinding one-man show at the intimate Folklore Rooms.
Nick Harper is heading back to Brighton on Sunday, 29 March, bringing his solo show to one of the city’s most intimate settings. If you’ve spent time in the local folk scene, you’ll likely know him not just as the son of Roy Harper, but as a prolific songwriter in his own right with eleven solo albums to his name, including Blue Sky Thinking. This particular performance is designed as a one-man show, where the focus stays entirely on his guitar work and composition. It’s a straightforward setup that relies on his technical ability and the songs he has developed over several decades in the industry.

The event is being held at The Folklore Rooms, situated at 12 North St. If you haven't been there before, it’s the space located directly above The Quadrant pub. With a capacity limited to just 60 people, it is one of the smaller venues in Brighton, which usually means the atmosphere is quite concentrated. In a room of that size, the distinction between the performer and the audience is minimal, making it a suitable spot for an acoustic set where the details of the guitar playing are the main feature. It’s the kind of place where you can actually see the technique up close, which fits the style of a solo artist like Harper.
There are two different sessions scheduled for the day, offering some flexibility for a Sunday. There is a matinee performance starting at 14:00, which is an 'all ages' opportunity for this type of show, as long as younger attendees are with an adult. Later in the evening, a second session begins at 19:30. Ticket prices are currently listed between ÂŁ17.50 and ÂŁ19.70 depending on the platform you use. Because the venue is so small, the experience is likely to be quite different from a standard gig, leaning more towards a quiet, focused afternoon or evening of music in the heart of the city.
